Kurt Stone is a writer, lecturer, political activist, professor, actor, medical ethicist and ordained rabbi. As a writer for more than 30 years, Professor Stone has written news, speeches for leading politicians, along with innumerable short stories, children's literature, articles and op-ed pieces. His articles have appeared in publications locally in Florida and as far away as Australia. Educated at the University of California, the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers University and the Hebrew Union College, Stone holds both a B.A. in American Political History and a Master of Hebrew Letters.
Prior to entering the rabbinate, Stone spent many years working in politics and journalism. He worked on the staff of United States Senator Mike Gravel (D-AK), California Governor Jerry Brown and former California Assembly Speaker Jess Unruh. He has also served as a congressional campaign manager and worked as a journalist/editor for Westinghouse Broadcasting, where he dealt with both the Watergate Hearings and the Patty Hearst kidnapping.
Professor Stone's best-known book, the critically acclaimed, bestselling The Congressional Minyan: The Jews of Capitol Hill, is a ground breaking work investigating the lives, careers, and accomplishments of the 179 Jewish men and women who have served in Congress throughout American history.
